Amanita musicalia is an 8' tall glowing sound reactive mushroom sculpture first shown at Firefly arts festival in 2016. The sculpture was designed to be:
collapsible and modular to allow it to fit in a car trunk, be carried into the woods, and set up by only one person.
safe and stable even in windy outdoor conditions without needing trip hazard guy-wires.
accurate mycologically (even if its namesake A. muscaria is an iconic mushroom).
sustainably produced using only materials rescued from the garbage.

Amanita musicalia made an encore appearance at Figment Boston. Although the mushroom’s sound reactive lighting is more impressive at night, it can still be viewed in full sunlight as the sculpture provides its own shade.

At night, the mushroom served as a focal point for impromptu musical performances.
