SUMMARY
Designer and engineer with a wide-ranging skill set eager to work with a diverse team on products that are delightful to use, environmentally sustainable, and socially responsible. Experienced designing prototypes in metal (lathe, mill, TIG welding, shear, brake), plastic (SLA/SLS/FDM 3D printers as well as laser cutters), and wood (hobbyist woodworker with a focus on foraged and reclaimed woods), facilitating user research and testing, and 3D modeling (Certified SOLIDWORKS Professional with a focus on large asm management, PDM, sheet metal, and design for injection molding).
EXPERIENCE
Somerville, MA Oct 2011 – Mar 2018
Formlabs
Mechanical Engineer, Industrial Designer
Joined Formlabs to build the second prototype of a low-cost desktop SLA 3D printer when it was just a 4 person team. One year and a half dozen prototypes later, the Form 1 raised $2.9M on Kickstarter. Continued to work on the engineering and design of SLA 3D printers and accessories, bringing to market the Form 1+, Form 2, Form 2 Finish Kit, Form Wash, Form Cure, and Fuse Sift (shipping 2019). Was involved through the full product development process from user research, concepting, prototyping, and testing to the DFM of bent sheet metal and plastic injection molded parts. Received 9 utility and design patents. Today, Formlabs has over 500 employees, is valued at over $1 billion, and is the largest seller of stereolithography 3D printers worldwide.
Philippines Oct 2010 – Oct 2011
SIBAT Sibol ng Agham at Teknolohiya
International Engineering Volunteer
Worked for a Filipino NGO on community-based renewable energy projects from microhydro feasibility studies to solar/small wind turbine hybrid installations. Collaborated with local farmers and community groups to develop applicable post-harvest technologies while living and working in rural villages throughout the Philippines.
Hollis, NH Jun – Dec 2009
Farm Design
Mechanical Engineering Co-op
Collaborated with small engineering teams in a product design consultancy to help clients in the medical device industry develop and test their products.
Menlo Park, CA Jan – Aug 2008
Apieron
Mechanical Engineering Co-op Mentor: Jeff Thayer, Vice President of R&D
Designed next generation of a non-invasive monitor to measure exhaled nitric oxide (eNO) for the management of asthma. Completed testing (HASS and HALT) of the existing product, which led to the FDA approval for the Insight™ eNO System.
Somerville, NJ Summers 2006, 2007
ETHICON a Johnson & Johnson Company
Mechanical Engineering Intern Mentor: Jonathan B. Gabel, P.E.
Designed a novel device for laparoscopic surgery. Duties involved observing surgical procedures, drawing, 3D modeling, and designing, constructing, and testing prototypes.
